Highlights from the 2023 UNDERRATED Golf Tour presented by KPMG

A look back on KPMG's first year as title sponsor of Stephen Curry's UNDERRATED Golf Tour

Alongside brand ambassador Mariah Stackhouse, KPMG is proud to have wrapped a special first season as title sponsor of the UNDERRATED Golf Tour presented by KPMG. UNDERRATED Golf, a purpose-driven endeavor, was founded by NBA superstar Stephen Curry in effort to accelerate equity, access and opportunity for underrepresented and underrated youth in the sport of golf. KPMG was announced in April as the title sponsor.

“Having KPMG as the title sponsor for this year of the UNDERRATED Golf Tour is huge because it’s a stamp of validation from a company that has been very intentional around supporting golf, and especially women’s golf,” Curry said. “To have them only continues to validate what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, and elevate the overall brand and experience of what’s expected when it comes to the UNDERRATED Golf Tour.”

At each of the Tour’s four stops across the country, 96 junior golfers participated in competitive golf tournaments that include team-building and networking activities. Ultimately, the 24 top-performing boys and girls competed at the season-ending Curry Cup at Lake Merced Golf Club in San Francisco, where 15-year-olds Lucky Cruz and Roisin Scanlon won the boys and girls competitions, respectively.

In its first year as title sponsor, KPMG was able to make an immediate and lasting impact on the UNDERRATED Golf Tour. On the day after the final round of the Curry Cup, KPMG hosted its first annual KPMG Leadership Development Day at the Curry Cup. Curry and Stackhouse hosted the day, which started with a Q&A between the hosts and the UNDERRATED Golf Tour athletes at the Stanford University golf complex. In the afternoon, the program shifted to Stanford’s academic campus, where the UNDERRATED Golf Tour athletes and parents participated in various leadership discussions, activities and workshops hosted by industry leaders across sports, business and academics, all developed to provide inspiration for long-term success on and off the golf course. Stackhouse led her own private workshop with the athletes and was grateful to be a part of this impactful program.

“I believe in championing young junior golfers as athletes, students and future leaders, so I really loved the fact that I was able to get involved with this event,” Stackhouse said. “To host a couple workshops for both the junior golfers and for the parents, I think that’s what sets this event apart and makes it different. These are things the things that have an impact not just through golf, but along their journeys in life.”

The KPMG Leadership Development Day received rave reviews from both the athletes and their parents, who valued the advice and lessons shared by the discussion hosts.

“I appreciate the relationship that KPMG has with UNDERRATED, because it’s more than just golf,” said Jenn Tuiolosega Robinson, a parent of one of the UNDERRATED Golf Tour athletes. “I appreciate that the parents are involved. So much focus is on the kids, and as parents, there’s not just a cookie-cutter way of going on the journey with kids and the process of recruiting and colleges. So this gives a platform for parents to really feel that there are resources and more support outside of what we know. The education provided here, the incredible speakers, they’re not just up there speaking. We appreciate that we get to have contact with them, we can ask questions, and we don’t feel like we’re alone in the process.”

With the 2023 season in the books, Stephen Curry believes that the best is yet to come:

“We had big visions and dreams of what the UNDERRATED Golf Tour could be and provide, but even with all the big dreams and visions you would never have imagined it would be this great this early,” Curry said. “The reactions we get from the players, their families, our partners – I think we’re on to something really special.”
