Team KPMG well represented as 2019 golf season commences
After a few quiet months to end 2018, the 2019 golf season is officially underway, and various members of Team KPMG will this week begin their 2019 golf campaigns. Here’s a quick look at the Team KPMG golfers that are in action this week for the first time this year:
Welcome back, Stacy Lewis! After stepping away from competitive play in July to give birth to her daughter Chesnee, Lewis returns to the LPGA Tour this week at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in Lake Buena Vista, FL. “I’m kind of using this next week more as a test run,” Lewis told the Orlando Sentinel. “See where my game is at, get my legs under me, test run for traveling with an infant and having her on the road with us.”
Lewis, who qualified for the inaugural event by way of her victory at the 2017 Cambia Portland Classic is one of 26 LPGA professionals competing in the field, which will follow a stroke play, no-cut format. Each professional will also be joined by a pair of celebrities.
On the PGA Tour, Phil Mickelson will embark on his 27th year as a professional at the Desert Classic in La Quinta, CA. The five-time major champion has had his fair share of success at the Desert Classic, claiming tournament victories in 2002 and 2004. If the past is any indication, we can expect a lot of birdies this weekend in the desert - only one time in the last 29 years has the Desert Classic champion finished with a score higher than 20-under par!
Second year pro Maverick McNealy begins his Web.com Tour season this week at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. The tournament, which runs Sunday, January 13 – Wednesday, January 16, had Maverick “mic’d up” for his first round. Check out the highlights here. Off the course, McNealy made headlines late last week by announcing his intention to donate $20 per birdie for the entire season to help provide quality education to students in need. As a proud supporter of Maverick, KPMG will match all of Maverick’s $20 donations throughout the 2019 season.
Last but not least, Irishman Paul Dunne will compete for the first time in 2019 this week on the European Tour at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Now in his fourth full season as a professional, Dunne will look to build upon a couple impressive seasons in 2017 and 2018, highlighted by a victory at the 2017 British Masters.
