Mickelson seeks second career Players Championship title

Lefty looks to add to his 2019 trophy case

Phil Mickelson looks to add to his trophy case this week as the PGA Tour heads to TPC Sawgrass for The Players Championship.

Mickelson enters the week coming off a strong start to his 2019 campaign, highlighted two top-10 finishes including a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The key to Mickelson’s early success has been his par-4 scoring, where he ranks first on tour at ‘birdie-or-better’ and third in scoring average on par-4s.

Lefty’s lone victory at TPC Sawgrass came in 2007, where he held off Sergio Garcia to win by three strokes with a score of -11. To get back in the winner’s circle, Mickelson will need to keep the ball in the fairway and avoid Sawgrass’ numerous water hazards – especially on the infamous 17th hole. Tee times for the first two rounds are 9:04am ET and 1:59pm ET, when Mickelson will tee it up with Rory McIlroy and Matt Kuchar.
