Mickelson seeks 2nd PGA Championship title

Lefty looks to right the ship at Bethpage Black

The Wanamaker Trophy is up for grabs this week as the golf world shifts its focus to Bethpage Black for the 2019 PGA Championship., where KPMG Brand Ambassador and 2005 PGA Champion Phil Mickelson will look to add a sixth major championship to his storied career.

Mickelson has played well at Bethpage in the past, finishing runner-up at both U.S. Open’s hosted at Bethpage in 2002 and 2009, respectively. Lefty is also a huge fan favorite in the New York area, and is excited to tee it up in front of the Long Island faithful.

“I’m excited to be back in NY for the PGA Championship,” Mickelson shared on Twitter. “I love playing Bethpage Black and looking forward to seeing some of the most passionate fans in the world this week!”

Lefty enters the PGA Championship after a successful start to his 2019 campaign, highlighted by a victory at the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The key to Mickelson’s solid run of play has been his work on Par 4s, where he currently leads the PGA Tour in birdie or better conversion (23.87%) and ranks 3rd in scoring at 3.95.

Mickelson will be paired with Rory McIlroy and Jason Day in the tournament’s first two rounds, with tee times at 1:38pm ET on Thursday and 8:13am ET on Friday. For more info on Phil’s quest to capture his second Wanamaker Trophy, follow us on Twitter @MickelsonHat and Instagram @KPMGGolf.
