Maverick McNealy is making the jump to professional golf’s biggest stage.
Finishing 23rd on the Korn Ferry Tour’s “The 25” list, the former Stanford All-American and second-year pro received his PGA TOUR card Sunday and will be competing on the PGA TOUR next season, which begins September 12th at The Greenbrier. McNealy joins Phil Mickelson as the second KPMG Brand Ambassador to play full time on the PGA TOUR.
“I am so excited to have my PGA TOUR card locked up this year,” McNealy said. “It has been my goal since turning pro two years ago, and I can’t wait to test my game against the best in the world.”
McNealy secured his spot in ‘The 25’ Sunday at the WinCo Foods Portland Open, the final event of the 2018-2019 Korn Ferry Tour season, finishing T48 at seven under par. All players that finished in ‘The 25’ received their PGA TOUR cards for the 2019-2020 season.
McNealy put together a solid campaign on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, highlighted by three top-10 finishes. A big part of his success was his scoring, where he ranked second on tour in putting average and fourth in birdie average.
“I think this year was a year of resilience for me,” McNealy said. “I got off to a great start but struggled a lot through the middle of the year. But I was extremely proud of my work ethic and the body of work I put in to overcome those challenges and achieve my ultimate goal at the end of the year. My finish to the season makes me really excited for what’s to come.”
After a decorated collegiate career at Stanford which included multiple Player of the Year awards, McNealy turned pro and became a KPMG brand ambassador in October of 2017. McNealy has played primarily on the Korn Ferry Tour in his two seasons as a professional.
Congratulations to Maverick on this major achievement and best of luck on the PGA TOUR!
