Of all the cards Leona Maguire will be receiving this holiday season, there is one that will likely top the list.
After an impressive two-week showing at Ladies European Tour Qualifying School, the Ireland native and KPMG brand ambassador has secured her LET card for the upcoming 2019 season.
Finishing the grueling 90-hole qualifying stage in a tie for fifth, Maguire headed to a playoff with Sweden’s Sarah Nilsson for the coveted fifth available LET card. On the first playoff hole, Maguire promptly sank a 15-foot birdie to win the playoff and the lone remaining card.
“I’m delighted,” Maguire told The Irish Times after the playoff. “I knew going into the playoff that that one spot would make a huge difference for next year. I’m just delighted that I could birdie it and get that fifth spot. I’m excited to play with some new golfers in new places.”
Obtaining Category 5c status on the LET will provide Maguire with the option of entering the majority of the competitions during the 2019 LET campaign. In addition to LET competitions, Maguire will compete in several events in the United States, primarily on the Symetra Tour.
Congratulations Leona and best of luck in the upcoming 2019 season!
