DUBLIN, IRELAND 10 February 2016: KPMG Ireland today announced a sponsorship agreement with Irish professional golfer Paul Dunne. The 23 year old from Greystones, Ireland will join five-time Major Champion Phil Mickelson and two-time LPGA Major Champion Stacy Lewis as a KPMG brand ambassador. Like his fellow ambassadors, Dunne will display the KPMG logo on the front of his cap as he competes in Ireland and around the world.
Since making the transition to the professional ranks in 2015, Dunne has already made an impression on the golf world, having led the Dunhill Links in his first event as a professional last year. In 2016, he earned a top 10 finish on the European Tour at the Jo'Burg Open and finished T13 in his PGA TOUR debut at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open. These professional achievements have been watched closely since he became a global media sensation last summer when the Irishman first captured the world's attention.
Paul became the first amateur in 88 years to lead the Open Championship after 54 holes, teeing off alongside Louis Oosthuizen in the final group. He went on to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup, helping them to a win over the USA. Dunne earned his European Tour Card and spot in the 2016 Race to Dubai in the final stages of Qualifying School last November. Before becoming one of the top emerging young players in the world, Dunne graduated with a degree in Business Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA.
Shaun Murphy, KPMG Managing Partner in Ireland and Lead Director of the KPMG International Board said; “Paul Dunne is a tremendous young golfer. Our sponsorship with Paul reflects our passion for investing in young Irish talent. We applaud his commitment and skill and look forward to working with Paul.”
“We are excited to enter into this relationship with Paul,” said John Veihmeyer, Chairman of KPMG International. “We believe that Paul’s passion for the game and maturity make him a natural fit to represent KPMG.”
KPMG and Paul Dunne will launch their relationship at the PGA TOUR’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Speaking on the eve of this launch and shortly before his 3rd PGA TOUR start, Paul said:
”I am very honoured to be associated with a brand like KPMG as I compete internationally on the European and PGA TOURs. It is an honour to join Phil Mickelson and Stacy Lewis as a fellow KPMG ambassador, two players whom I greatly admire and I look forward to learning from them as I embark on my professional career.”
