Hot Start to 2019 for Team KPMG

Mickelson and Lewis earn Top-10s in their season debuts

What a start to the 2019 season for Team KPMG!

In two respectively impressive performances, Team KPMG veterans Phil Mickelson and Stacy Lewis each earned top-10 finishes in their season debuts last week.

Mickelson’s bid to start his 2019 campaign with a victory came down to the 72nd hole at the Desert Classic. A birdie putt to take the lead on the 18th missed by inches, opening the door for Adam Long to claim his first Tour victory. Mickelson, though, should be more than encouraged by his play. The 48-year-old finished with a remarkable score of -25 under, highlighted by an opening round -12 (60) which tied his best ever score in a competitive tournament round. “It’s a weird game,” Mickelson said. “Sometimes if you haven’t played for a while it can just click and come right back.”

On the LPGA Tour, Stacy Lewis made her return to competitive play after sitting out the last six months while giving birth to her daughter Chesnee. The two-time major champion showed little signs of rust, finishing at -8 at in a tie for sixth place at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Lewis will now take an extended absence before returning to competitive play in March at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup.

This week, Team KPMG members Maverick McNealy and Paul Dunne will be in action on the and European Tours, respectively. McNealy remains in search of his first Tour victory at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, while Dunne looks to get back on track at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
